Scope of MS1: Hiroshima and Nagasaki

This  collection is rich in content from manuscripts and educational materials, testimonials, and correspondence. Individuals from Bertrand Russell, Senator Mark Hatfield, John Whittier Treat, Joan Baez, and numerous others speak to their positions on war and and efforts on anti-nuclear positions. Manuscripts and testimonials from Hibakusha and non-Japanese Hibakusha, US/Japan relations pertaining to topics such as relocation of Japanese, Kamikaze pilots  as well as notes from the Auschwitz Committee of Hiroshima are part of this collection. Hiroshima peace initiatives from paper cranes and Vietnam Orphans as well as by the YMCA are included. Additionally, research reports on medical effects of the bombings produced by the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission can be found in this collection. There are sixteen subseries housed in two legal-sized file cabinets with materials ranging from 1945 through 2012.
