Available Now: The Chronicle of Higher Education (On Campus and Remote)

As faculty, adjunct faculty, or staff, if you are a subscriber to The Chronicle of Higher Education, we have some great news to report.  As of October, the Watson Library has acquired campus-wide (and remote access) to the online version of The Chronicle of Higher Education for you.  So, you no longer need to feel compelled to pay for this subscription out of pocket, or from a departmental budget.

To access our campus subscription, you have several options available.  We have a direct link setup here (https://library.wilmington.edu/chronicle), which will work on campus.  However, if you are working remote you can always sign in via our OPAL proxy login, and then use the URL above for access anywhere in the world.  Once you have access, you can then set up a personalized account by clicking “Sign In” on the COHE website.  This personalized account will allow you access to further features from The Chronicle online, such as free reports, advice guides, and virtual events.

Lastly, we have also created a new “Faculty Resources” page which contains links to faculty focused resources like COHE.  As we bring more faculty oriented services online, we will add them to this page.  The goal of the Faculty Resources page is to give you a portal to useful tools offered by the Watson Library that will improve your pedagogy and classroom achievement.

Schedule a Librarian

Watson Librarians are always available to help with reference questions or as a partner on your research interests at any time.  In an effort to provide this service to you and our students, we now have a new feature on our website called “Schedule a Librarian”.

This service uses the Microsoft Bookings feature from Office 365 and provides our patrons with a current view of available appointment times based on our availability in MS Outlook.  Feel free to use this feature to schedule a video chat, phone call, or an in-person meeting with one of us at any time.

Library Instruction Always Available

Watson Library offers library instruction in a variety of formats and on multiple topics, on request from any faculty member, full time, or adjunct.

Our library instruction is divided into three tiers and includes: custom online video tutorials (tier one); basic catalog and database instruction and library tours (tier two); and more in-depth instruction (tier three). Tier three instruction is very customizable and can include, topic-specific instruction, database and catalog instruction tailored to an assignment, individual reference sessions, and class sessions with a librarian available for research help. Use of library space for a class period is also an option at anytime. For those teaching online, or hybrid classes, feel free to request library instruction and student reference sessions over Zoom or use our always available Watson Library Video Conference.

To request library instruction, contact us at library@wilmington.edu or use our new “Schedule a Librarianfeature. We will need to know the date and time of your class, the type of instruction you need, and where you want the class to be held. Submit requests at least one week in advance, and plan to attend the instruction with your class. Requests should include a copy of the class syllabus or assignment instructions.

Purchase Requests, Inter-Library Loan Submissions, and Course Reserves Online

When we launched our new website in August, we promised to deliver new innovations that would hopefully enhance your faculty experience when using library resources.  This month, we were able to bring online a few minor workflow enhancements that we hope will do just that. Each of these online forms were developed to not only provide you with an easy interface, but on the backend, allow us to fulfill your requests with greater efficiency.

First, you can now suggest purchases for the library collection in any material type via our new “Purchase Request” interface.  Though we cannot always guarantee that the budget will be able to meet the request, using this form will provide us with documentation of your need, and allow us to better prioritize how funds are spent.

Next, we now have an online form for processing your incoming Inter-Library Loan (ILL) requests.  This workflow enhancement provides improvement to an already robust system for acquiring materials from OPAL and/or OhioLink.

Finally, we now have an active online form where you can submit items that you’d like to see put on course reserve for a class.  Using this form is not limited to traditional print books either.  We can now work with our faculty to build eReserve pages with curated reading lists to meet your needs and the learning objectives of your students.  So, when you want to provide more reading and research to your students, just fill out this form to get the process started.
